Chester Zoo - On a TV near you

Ever wanted to see what goes on behind the scenes at Chester Zoo? Well, thanks to a television series starting next week you can.

Beginning on Monday October 8 on Five, Zoo Days will give you an insight into the highs and lows of life at Chester Zoo from the comfort of your own armchair. The series will be narrated by the award-winning actress Jane Horrocks who shot to fame in television show playing Bubbles in Absolutely Fabulous and the film Little Voice. Viewers will be able to see a different side of life at the 110-acre zoo.

Viewers will meet the zoo's keepers and vets, the animals and see a number of fascinating stories unfold over the course of the series. In the first episode keepers are forced to intervene when two African black rhinos lock horns in a lovers' tiff after taking an instant dislike to each other while a later episode will see keepers introduce two elephants to each other in the hope that they'll breed.

The 20 episode long series was filmed on location at the zoo over 11 weeks earlier in the year by Granada Wild. On the subject of never working with children and animals Series Producer Ron Trickett said: "Well, our production team has spent most of the summer filming children and no fewer than 7,000 animals - and they've loved every minute of it."

Zoo Days will be broadcast weekdays at 6.30pm on Five from Monday 8th - Wednesday 31st October. If you fancy seeing any of the animals featured in the show be show to book your visit to Chester Zoo with us and save.
