New Homes at Chester Zoo
There's some new homes at Chester Zoo this week as 5 Komodo Dragons and a Greater One-horned Rhinoceros move into their new enclosures.
Patna the Greater One-horned or Asian rhino is 3 years old and will be moving into new accommodation near the main entrance at Chester Zoo. Patna's new home will have heated mud wallows and an indoor heated pool. Patna will share his new home with a number of Blackbuck and Brow-antlered deer.
Already home to a number of Black rhinos, this is the first time in 9 years that Chester Zoo has provided a home for an endangered Asian rhino. Patna comes from Berlin Zoo and will be joined by a female rhino from Switzerland in September with the hope that the pair will breed and increase this endangered species' numbers.
World famous rhino brand *ecko unltd have donated a £10,000 helping hand to building the new home for the rhinos at Chester Zoo.
A change of scenery is also in store for the zoo's baby Komodo Dragons that hatched in January amidst a flurry of media attention. Irwin, Herman, Indie, Bert and Ernie were born as a result of a reproduction method previously unheard of in Komodos whereby mum Flora is also the babies dad. The move will be the first time the siblings have been seen by the public and will be under the same roof as their mother in a purpose built enclosure in the zoo's Islands of Danger.
Chester Zoo has a whopping 500 plus species of fascinating animals, providing a great day out for all the family. For your tickets and a low cost family break, book your tickets today with Chester Zoo Holidays.
