Babirusa Baby at Chester Zoo

There's a new arrival at Chester Zoo, perhaps one of the most unusual looking arrivals the Zoo has had - a baby Barbisu pig, the first of the species to be born at Chester Zoo.

While it is not yet known if the new addition is male or female, one's thing for sure; it's a special piglet. There are only four breeding Baribusa females across Europe and the species is threatened in it's wild habitat of the eastern Indonesian island of Sulawesi. Chester Zoo has kept the species at the Zoo for over nine years but the new arrival, born to mum Majene and dad Ssuasa, is the first baby to be born.

Chester Zoo is also welcoming a 21-year-old Okapi. It is hoped that Kilburi will partner up with the Zoo's own Okapi Stuma. Chester Zoo's Indian rhino Patna will also receive a new partner with the arrival of Batschii.

At Chester Zoo the new arrivals are amongst hundreds of fascinating and exciting animals.
